It was an amazing week for Pole Vault Carolina athletes at the North Carolina state championships! 22 athletes competed in 11 contests over a 4 day period in 2 different cities. 15 of the 22 athletes finished in the top 4 spots of their classifications, or 68% of those competing. Junior Ben Altenburg of Northwood High School is the NCHSAA 3A Outdoor State Champion! This is Ben’s 3rd state championship title in the pole vault! Ben improved his personal record to 16’2″. Pole Vault Carolina senior Dani McCarron will compete for Dartmouth beginning in the fall of 2026! Danica is the highest jumping high school girl in Pole Vault Carolina history, with a personal record of 13’4″, the qualifying standard for World Juniors. SPECTACULAR was our weekend at Nike Indoor Nationals! At the start of pre-season, we hoped to qualify 20 athletes for Nike Indoor Nationals. Eighteen athletes were accepted and sixteen attended, 5 in Championship, 11 in Emerging Elite. Ben Altenburg and James Witt earned All American status. Three Pole Vault Carolina athletes jumped new personal records: Junior Ben Altenburg 4.88m; Sophomore Gwyneth Overton 11’2; and Sophomore Elise Davis 11’2” and 11’8”.
