Sixteen athletes competed in the Pole Vault Carolina Decathlon last weekend and truly wowed us with their tenacity. Fifteen of those athletes had never attempted a decathlon before. We asked each athlete to set a goal to finish, and they did!
There were many highlights, and one stands out above the rest: our youngest decathlete was 9 year-old Grant Elliott. Grant completed all 10 events, and thought he would have to run the last lap of the 1500m by himself as the older competitors in his heat had finished. But upon seeing Grant alone on the track, fellow decathletes Bobby Rosilli and Colin Johnson caught up with Grant and ran the last lap with him!
This is more than sport.
