This clinic will take place at Pole Vault Carolina in Durham, NC.
Jim Bemiller coached the pole vault at The University of Tennessee from 1986-2005. He coached the 2004 Olympic champion in the pole vault, Timothy Mack, and the current NCAA record holder and 2000 Olympic Silver Medalist Lawrence Johnson. He currently works with Rio 2016 Olympic finalist Kelsey Ahbe and 2016 Olympic Trials qualifier Carolina Carmichael.
His athletes in the pole vault have broken the Olympic, World Athletic Final, American, American Junior, U.S. Olympic Trials, NCAA, and SEC records. Tennessee Alumni won the pole vault at three consecutive U.S. Olympic Trials. (’96, ’00, and ’04) and won Gold (2004) and Silver (2000) Olympic Medals. Jim coached vaulters at Tennessee who have won 5 NCAA Championships, 15 Southeastern Conference Championships and 28 All America Certificates.
Jim is the author of the chapter on pole vault training and technique in the most recent edition of the USATF Track and Field Coaching Manual. He also serves on the U.S. Pole Vault Development Executive Staff and mentors young coaches and athletes.
He is an associate professor in the Department of Kinesiology, Recreation and Sport Studies at The University of Tennessee. Jim teaches graduate level courses in sport law, organizational behavior and leadership. His primary research interests include elite performance in sport, risk management and constitutional issues in sport. He is licensed to practice law in the state of Tennessee and is a USATF Level I certified coach.
