The 2022 Outdoor Season came to a close this weekend with the NCISAA and NCHSAA State Championships. Pole Vault Carolina athletes participated in 8 contests and secured 5 state titles, 1 second place finish, 2 third place finishes, and 1 fourth place finish!
Big congratulations go out to:
Senior Jonathan Horn for his 2 outdoor state titles: pole vault and 110m hurdles. Jon has won 6 state titles in his high school career, and that includes missing a year due to Covid shutdowns.
Senior Julianna Hallyburton is a 2X state champion and the record holder across all classifications in the NCISAA.
Junior Bailey Tart is the winner of the 4A NCHSAA state championship.
Sophomore Colin Troan won the NCISAA Div. 1 state championship.
Freshman Larkin Toper is a 2X NCISAA state champion in the pole vault.
Two Pole Vault Carolina athletes missed the outdoor state championships due to injury:
Maddie Davies won the 2022 NCHSAA Indoor State Championships making her a 2X state champ. She was a contender for the outdoor title.
With a personal best of 14’8”, Noah Rhodes was a contender for the 4A state title.
The athletes who made it to the podium began preparing for the state meets in August of 2021. They took a short break after summer track and then attended pre-season training where they worked on speed, strength, running mechanics, and the areas of the jump they hoped to improve. They committed to pole vault 3 days a week, or a minimum of 2 for those who live farther away. They organized their lives around practice, instead of trying to fit pole vault into open areas on the family calendar.
This is what it takes. If you dream of winning the state meet, and want to practice with more consistency, text Coach to discuss and create a plan!
